about

Push Pals is the rock 'n' roll side project from Charlotte, North Carolina graphic designer Benjamin Gelnett. Previously, Ben performed live and recorded solo material under the moniker Coma League. During that time, he worked to refine a full "band sound" in the studio.

In February 2010, Blake Raynor (bass) and Noah Warner (drums) of Little Bull Lee entered the scene. The two formed the rhythm section of Push Pals and provided helpful insights, generally improving the arrangements and songwriting. Sometime in July 2010, after shows at Clemson's Outdoor Fest and a Kinnikinnik Records showcase, the trio entered the Yauhaus in Charlotte to record the nine or ten songs they had written over the past few months.

The music was recorded live in one day, in one or two takes, by producer/engineer Bo White. The following day, the band returned to record overdubs and group vocals. Elise Anderson of Brain F dropped in on the final day of tracking to record guest vocal tracks. She provides all female, backing vocals on the She's In Season EP and the To the thing, and back EP.

Between both EPs, the band mashes up a healthy dose of lo-fi beach party, indie rock and its own special blend of what Ben describes as "crunk punk."

Push Pals played shows with Wavves, Pocahaunted, Christmas Island and the Growlers, in support of the new material. Unforunately, the band called it quits in late 2010. However, Ben continues to write and record new material with a variety of cohorts. He has plans to continue releasing material as Push Pals for the foreseeable future. Who knows what sort of wackiness awaits.
